The Ticket, Irish Times: The Best Jazz Gigs of the Week
JAZZGate: The Music of Billie Holiday Featuring Emilie Conway with guitarist Aengus Hackett, Dan Bodwell, bass and Barry Duffy, drums.
Ten years ago, I put together a 50th Anniversary tribute to Billie Holiday with a small tour supported by the Arts Council. I'm delighted to re-visit this repertoire and the work and life of Billie Holiday for a performance in Galway this Thursday. It's been an ingenious idea by guitarist Aengus Hackett to curate a series of concerts over the summer to bring the music of some of the creators and legends of the sound of jazz from Monk to Miles to Ella to Billie to jazz audiences in Galway - and the Galway folk have been showing up in their droves with concerts selling out. So this week, à la New York traditions, we're putting on two concerts, one at 7 and one at 9pm. Info here.

In June, I was notified that I had received an award from the Arts Council's Arts and Disability Ireland Connect Scheme. This award allows me to deeper study Brazilian and Afro Brazilian rhythms which will further inform my ongoing Brazilian jazz project!! I'm delighted. We had a sold out concert in Arthurs back in April, thank you for coming out! And we're working on a recording also ........
Arts Disability Ireland invited me to give an interview earlier this year which you can read here: Meet an Artist: Emilie Conway
There's lots of live jazz out there - it's just to know where to find it ! These 2 website have all the info: jazzireland.ie | improvised music.ie.
Take care of yourselves and each other and hope to see you soon !
Best wishes,
Emilie
