October 2013: Ernie Whalley review: "a fine singer, Emilie Conway, puts a further gloss on proceedings .."

OCTOBER 11th

Ohhh! The Wild Goose Grill where I currently have a Friday night jazz residency just got a rave review from critic Ernie Whallley in last week's Sunday Times!!: "A restaurant at the very top of its form.' **** & a half stars!

Whalley describes his "astral evening" at Ranelagh's Wild Goose Grill with glowing praise for everything from the food, the room, the staff, to the chef Damien Hannon, who Whalley writes, "deserves to be famous." And adds, "a fine singer, the Emilie Conway Quartet put a further gloss on proceedings." :)) Of our special guest, Louis Stewart, joining Johnny, Dave and I for Culture Night, Whalley attributed the due praise, "a world renowned guitarist for whom the saying 'no man is a prophet in his own country' might have been invented."

Congratulations from me and my musicians to Kevin McMahon & all at The Wild Goose Grill. Their dedication, passion and indeed pleasure in what they do is consistently clear to us as we sing and play over some swinging plates, clinking glasses and the swish of changing table cloths!

Do come down folks! Robson Rocha, Dave Mooney, Cote Calmet and I; Brazilian Jazz tomorrow eve. Friday 1st Nov I am singing with guitarist Eamonn Moran, Dave Fleming & Cote Calmet with a slightly different program of tunes that includes interpretations of Nick Drake, Joni Mitchell & Glen Campbell. Then it's back to the ECQ for Fridays 8th, 15th & 22nd of Nov.:)
